The Waiting

Then the Lord said to me, “you have seen well, for I am (actively) watching over My word to fulfill it.”
  • Jeremiah 1:12

The waiting room … have you been there?
Where the time seems to tick by slower than any other time; where you sit awaiting movement, news, directions or even just a small glimpse of that new arrival.
I’m sure we’ve all been in God’s waiting room at one time or another - some much more than others.

It is in that time of waiting what seems like forever for promises to come to pass, that we find it so easy to give up hope and give up faith that we will see things start to happen. It feels so easy to walk away, or take things into our own hands, because we cannot wait any longer for something to happen - and yet that’s when it seems to fall apart. It’s the feeling of sitting in a dark room waiting for the power to come back on so we can move forward.

Joseph had to wait too, only his wait was incredibly long. In Genesis, we see that Joseph’s wait was not only lengthy, but it was also filled to the brim with trials and testing. His brothers despised him, then sold him into slavery. He was falsely accused and thrown in prison - he had plenty of time and opportunity to give up all hope and faith that everything would be alright.

But just as in the case of Joseph, God wants us to know that He has not forgotten us. He has not forgotten me, nor has He forgotten you. God has not forgotten His promises to either of us.

Jeremiah 1:12 says that He is ACTIVELY watching - meaning ‘in a deliberate and positive way’ and ‘in an energetic or vigorous way.’ God has not fallen asleep - He is not bored or lethargic. He is watching over His word, fully aware - with full attention, to make sure His word is fulfilled. He watches to make sure everything stays in alignment with His will to fulfill His promises to us.

In Matthew 4:4, Jesus said “ it is written and forever remains written: ‘man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’
Keeping the above verse in mind when reading this one, we can know that when everything else seems to shake or rattle or fall away - or maybe even stuck in that waiting room awaiting the promises we’ve been given; when everything else seems to be breaking down, you can lean on those promises and they will not fail. You can lean on EVERY word the Father speaks.

As you sit and wait for a promise to come to fruition, or directions on which way to go; As you sit in that dark room, waiting for the power to come back on, KNOW that It is HIS word that will always be a constant; reliable; trustworthy, and never failing because HE is watching over His words, and His every promise. Our job is to simply trust and to lean on HIM in our waiting.

So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
